Admittedly, the number of air intake kits on the market today are a bit overwhelming, especially for pickup trucks. I can think of about a dozen off the top of my head, but rarely do they come with performance data. We recently got our hands on an installation of the Outlaw intake kit for the Chevy Duramax Diesel, along with dyno data to back it up. Some enthusiasts install air intake kits just for the pure sound of it. They sure do sound throaty... however if all you want is sound, you are better off getting a decent exhaust kit. It's hard to stomach the cost of an intake kit for the sound improvement alone. In this article we'll show how the new air intake kit from Outlaw is more than just good sound. With an Outlaw intake system, you'll get more torque, more horsepower, improved fuel efficiency, smoother throttle response, and an uninhibited growl that lets your friends know you are serious about performance.
The install was performed on a 2002 Chevrolet 2500 with a Duramax Diesel engine. This ride had just under 100,000 miles on it, and the owner was ready to start getting more bang out of its powerful diesel engine. It already had a Banks Power cat back exhaust kit installed, but that is irrelevant in this installation as the dyno tests compare the results before and after the installation of the Outlaw air intake kit only.
