More in: Hummer, SUV "A bill before the Congress could eliminate the tax break that allowed small business owners to deduct up to $100,000 of the cost of certain new full-size SUVs. The AP reports that the bill could reach President Bush's desk by the end of the week. It would take the current deduction limit of $100,000 for vehicles more than 6000 pounds and would cut it to $25,000. Pickup trucks, however, would retain the full deduction. The deduction, at one point dubbed the "HUMMER" tax break by Arianna Huffington and other anti-SUV critics, had been allowed because the vehicles were considered business equipment. Under the new bill, the deductions would be extended through 2007 at the new levels."
