Yesterday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), released their much anticipated crash test results for pickups with Dodge and Toyota taking home their donor vehicles mangled carcasses and the awards for the two safest pickups of the 2005 model year.

The Dodge Dakota 2-door and Toyota Tacoma 2-door were the only two 2005 model pickups to receive the NHTSA's top rating of five stars for their performance in both side impact and frontal crash tests.

The report, which was released Wednesday also sites the Chevrolet Silverado 4x2 and the GMC Sierra 4x2 (who would have guessed the same truck would win twice) had the best performance results in rollover crash test, earning the twin pickups a four star safety rating.

Bringing up the rear for the lowest safety performance and least amount of stars was the Ford Ranger 4x4 and Mazda B-Series 4x4 with a miserable two star rating - Maybe the Chevy blazer has some competition.
