Ford Motor Company continues to restructure their manufacturing operations across the United States, this time concerning their sport utility vehicle production. Group Vice President of Global Manufacturing and Labor Affairs at Ford, Joe Hinrichs, stated “Ford Motor Co. is undergoing a transformation in its manufacturing operations and both Kentucky Truck and Louisville Assembly plants play key roles as Ford transforms three of its truck plants to car plants". The plants affected by the transformations are Ford's St. Thomas Assembly plant, Kentucky Truck Plant and the Louisville Assembly plant. Production of the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator sport utility vehicles will move to the Kentucky Truck Plant early next year. The Ford Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer will be moved to the the Kentucky Truck Plant as well, although Ford have not disclosed when production will be stopped of the iconic sport utility vehicle. Both Ford plants in Louisville are preparing for changes to small car production and will be complete by mid year in 2010.
