General Motors is recalling nearly 200,000 vehicles, most of them pickups, vans and SUVs with defective brakes. GM says the problems have caused no injuries. The recall affects 2004 and 2005 models of the Hummer H2, Chevrolet Silverado and Suburban, and the GMC Yukon XL. Federal safety officials say a part in the braking system could crack during driving and fragments could injure people if the hood were open. The crack also could allow fluid to leak, which could make it harder to brake or steer. GM is also recalling 2004 Cadillac XLR coupes, Pontiac Grand Prix sedans and Cadillac SRX SUVs because the gas pedal may not work properly in extreme cold. Another 2005 model year recall involves Buick Raniers, Chevrolet Trailblazers, GMC Envoys and Isuzu Ascenders, which have improperly fitted windshields.
