When Jake and I aren't somehow involved with the physical world of trucks, we are spending most of our time in the virtual world of trucks--that being the web. There are so many incredible truck websites out there that we figured we would honor their online accomplishments by starting a weekly department called "Truckblog Site Of The Week". We wanted to go with our "Whateverblog" naming convention like our Friday "Beerblog", and "Truckblog" is already taken (ha!) and "Siteblog" just sounds stupid. So since Jake is off shooting a feature for the site and I haven't been able to come up with something different, here is our first "Truckblog Site Of The Week" (feel free to hit "Comments" and make a suggestion for something better!)

Our first award goes to...

The Baller's Journal

(5/5)

After careful review of our favorites (which will be in the spotlight in the near future), we agreed that "The Baller's Journal" was the clear winner of our first award. Why? It is not your normal enthusiast website... in fact it's not like anything else we have ever seen on the web. While this isn't a 100% dedicated truck site, the majority of the vehicles featured are trucks.

For starters, it's created entirely in Flash. Because of this, the writers are able to do some very VERY cool stuff. Every issue has its own soundtrack, and each article within that issue has its own song. If the soundtrack doesn't make it "all that", the photos of the trucks and girls do. The animation effects of the photos and text are well done... this is one class act, and you can tell the site is produced by a small team of true enthusiasts, not a corporation. Stay on track guys... don't sell out!

There are currently three issues: March, May, and July. Each issue is unique in its own way, telling a small story for true auto enthusiasts. While they are planning video in future issues, the world of multi-media has truly hit the web. This Journal is no static web page with boring text and images. In fact it's so true to the 'street', our only PG-warning is for the language... if you are easily offended by the f-bomb or other fourletts, go directly to disney.com and cleanse thyself at "It's a small world." There is some partial nudity (it's so minor that it's almost not worth mentioning), but the photos (many of them from Mark Kuz) are high quality, high-resolution, and allow your imagination to fill in the blanks.
