Project JAKD had a Fumoto Valve installed previously which allowed us to replace the oil sample valve with an Oil Temp Sender to monitor filter-housing temperature from the aux port. This location is not recommended for monitoring real time engine oil temps due to the cooling that takes place along the bypass filtration system as a result of the oil flow rate.

The pressure line to the OilGuard filter is taken from the top of the custom aluminum billet oil filter cap. The replacement cap includes a permanently fixed fitting that attaches to a swivel hose end. The return line goes to a special aluminum billet oil filler cap that includes a fitting for attaching the return line.

Installation Steps

Mount the OilGuard filter bracket on the frame rail or cross-member as close to the engine as possible. Allow room needed to remove the canister when changing filter elements. The unit can be mounted in any orientation (horizontal or vertical).

Due to the Rize Suspension system, the only place the filter could be mounted while still allowing ease of access for maintenance was inside the frame just behind the transfer case. The location chosen should allow the filter housing to be rotated for filter changes for this very reason.

After the filter bracket has been mounted, install the two 90-degree JIC elbows, JIC swivel hose ends, and oil drain valve. Ensure the JIC elbows are tightened and oriented to ensure unrestricted clearance of the push-loc hose and filter bracket.

Route the push loc hose from the oil filler and filter caps to the filter bracket. Depending on how far away the filter is mounted, extra push-loc hose may be required. ¼” push-loc hose can be purchased at any hydraulics store and readily found through a simple Internet search. If extra hose is required, ensure it is H100, H101, or H201 compatible.

Replace the oil filter cap with the Special Replacement Cap provided in the OilGuard kit. Ensure the 90-degree swivel elbows are snug and oriented in the direction of the push-loc hose.

Tip: Install the oil filler and filter cap, and mark the proposed location of the swivel elbow in relation to the routed push-loc hose with a dry erase marker. This will allow assembly outside the cramped engine bay. Once complete, it’s just a matter of attaching the hose to the JIC swivel hose end.

Connect the pressure hose line from the OilGuard "IN" port to the fitting on the Special Replacement Cap.

Tip: Lubricate the hose insert when connecting the push-loc hose to the JIC swivel hose ends.

Replace the oil filter cap with the Special Replacement Cap provided in the OilGuard kit. Ensure the 90-degree swivel elbows are snug and oriented in the direction of the push-loc hose.

Start your engine and check for leaks around all fittings. Wait for the oil to get hot as it flows inside the push-loc hose. Push the hose onto each JIC hose end one more time taking advantage of the heat and ensuring they are seated all the way.

Enjoy the benefits of cleaner oil and prolonged engine life.
