K&N Engineering Inc of Riverside, California, are the performance experts when it comes to automotive intake and filteration systems, offering bolt-on kits for all common cars, trucks and SUV's. Due to their ease of installation, we opted for a FIPK performance air intake system on Project Truckblog, a 2005 Ford F-150 5.4L V8 pickup truck.

What comes in the box?

• FIPK intake tube
• Mounting Hardware
• Throttle body relocation mount
• Heat shield assembly
• Silicone Hoses & hose clamps
• Pre-oiled air filter
• Gaskets
• Detailed Instructions

The following is a how-to installation of the K&N Engineering FIPK intake system.

Installation Steps

The first step for installing the K&N Engineering FIPK intake system, is to disconnect the truck's battery to prevent any electrical accidents while under the vehicle, then disconnect the mass air sensor electrical connection. Then, rotate the crank case vent hose locking ring and pull the crank case vent hose off of the air filter housing. Once done, you must unhook the wiring harness retaining clip from air box. Finally, loosen the last intake bolt on the backside of the tube.

Next, you may remove the stock intake system. Once the stock intake assembly has been removed, you may remove the stock intake support bracket, held on by two 13 mm nuts. Then, disconnect the TPS sensor's electrical connection from the stock throttle body. Remove the four 10mm bolts holding down the stock throttle body to the intake manifold.

Now you want to lift the throttle body and disconnect the motor's electrical connection. Once disconnected, using the four bolts that were removed from the stock throttle body assembly earlier, install the K&N throttle body adapter with the provided gasket, to the stock throttle body. Then, re-install the new assembly onto the stock intake manifold, and reconnect the body motor and TPS electrical connections.

Now you have to assemble and install the intake heat shield system. Install the "L" bracket provided in the kit, and associated hardware, along with the weather stripping along the top of the heat shield assembly. Then push in the provided nut inserts into the air box mounting holes on the stock intake brackets located on the truck.
