According to the Detroit News, Dodge executives have announced a 20 percent fuel efficiency increase in the 2009 Dodge Ram, set to debut this fall. The fuel mileage increase is said to have improved in the 5.7 liter Hemi eight cylinder motor, which produces a bold 380 horse power and 404 foot pounds of torque. Chief Engineer, Mike Cairns, stated "We expect to see a 10 to 20 percent gain in highway efficiency". Dodge's Director, Mike Accavitti, added "This is the best truck Dodge has ever made". The 2008 Dodge Ram equipped with the 5.7 liter Hemi currently gets 15 miles per gallon in the city and 19 miles per gallon on the highway. The new 20 percent increase would push those numbers to 23 miles per gallon on the highway, a big improvement for the pickup truck segment.
