Expected to be in production by 2010, the Tundra diesel pickup truck will boast a predicted 7.0 liter diesel eight cylinder engine, as well as an upgraded 4.7 liter eight cylinder gasoline motor. The 4.7 liter gasoline motor is expected to replace the company's current 5.7 liter, and run on E85 ethanol fuel. Along with the new diesel motor, Toyota is also working on a heavy-duty edition Tundra, which will be developed primarily for commercial interests. Whether or not investing in the future of heavy duty pickup trucks is the best decision right now, Toyota is looking to gain a large portion of market share, which has been largely struggling.
