The USA Today are reporting that automakers have now developed new "low rolling resistance" tires that will aid in adding extra mileage out of your vehicle, even a few miles per gallon. Bridgestone President, Mike Martini, commented "They are putting much more emphasis on fuel economy than ever before...when it comes to picking tires". In previous years, gas-saving tires had been developed but generated little interest in the "cheap" fuel price days. The tires were made of special formulated compounds of rubber and unique tread designs that reduced friction on the road, but sacrificed traction or grip on the road. With a drastic rise in gasoline prices recently, automakers have now picked up their drawing boards again and have created new fuel saving tires that also offer performance increases. Although new tires are on the way, Jim Davis of Goodyear Tires says "Consumers could get more gas savings by simply keeping tires properly inflated" and "Vehicles whose tires are under-inflated by 20% use 10% more gas". How inflated are yours?
