MagnaFlow Performance Exhaust of Rancho Santa Margarita, California, are the performance experts when it comes to automotive exhaust systems, offering bolt-on kits for all common trucks and SUV's. Due to their ease of installation, we opted for a stainless steel cat back exhaust system on Project Truckblog. In addition to this install article, we produced the first episode of our video series, Truckblog TV, covering the full installation of the MagnaFlow exhaust install on our F-150. The following how-to article highlights the steps required for the proper installation of the catback exhaust.

• Stainless Steel Cat Back Exhaust System
• Mounting Hardware
• 3 inch Clamps
• Detailed Instructions

The following is a how-to installation of the MagnaFlow Performance Cat Back Exhaust.

Installation Steps

The first step for installing the MagnaFlow Performance Cat Bback Exhaust system, is to disconnect the truck's battery to prevent any electrical accidents while under the vehicle, then unbolt all of the stock clamps holding the stock exhaust assembly together, and remove the exhaust. To aid in removal, we used a sawzall and cut about an inch behind the muffler outlet.

Once the stock assembly has been removed, you will then need to install either the 24" long intermediate pipe (for 2004 trucks only) or the 18" intermediate pipe (for 2005+ trucks). Since our F-150 is a 2005, we used the 18" pipe. Insert and fasten the intermediate pipe, then install the muffler, tailpipe extension, and final tail pipe with exhaust tip. Use the supplied 3 inch clamps for all joint connections.

Finally, with all of the exhaust pieces mounted loosely, check the exhaust assembly for fitments and clearance, then tighten the whole system. Make sure there is at least 1/2 inch of clearance between the exhaust and body panels to prevent heat-related problems with the truck. Once you are done, connect the truck battery again and inspect all connections and clamps after test driving the vehicle.
