Andrew Posner of TreeHugger.com says that the price for a gallon of gas is selling for around $3.00 per gallon in New Jersey, a price that is lower than the nations average of $3.51. Why, you ask? Here's your answer. "New Jersey has the nation’s third-lowest gasoline tax, at 14.5 cents a gallon, and it hasn’t gone up in almost two decades". And according to the New Jersey Petroleum Council, the state is "the fourth largest oil-producing state in the nation". The only states with even lower gasoline taxes are Wyoming and Alaska, at 14 cents and 8 cents per gallon. The highest gasoline taxed states are Hawaii at 35.1 cents, Nevada at 33.3 cents and California at 32 cents, according to the California Energy Commission.
