Autoweek reports that Ford Motor Company will be equipping their Sync multimedia in-car system with telematics services in the near future. Customers will be able to upgrade their current Sync systems through a portable thumb drive, without having to go to their local dealership. The telematics access will be delivered through your cell phone, using its cellular service. Unlike General Motors' OnStar technology, Ford's Sync will not feature embedded phones in vehicles, which will not allow them to be tracked through global positioning systems.
