More in: General Motors, Layoffs As a continuation of our American Axle Strike coverage, General Motors have now announced the closure of four more plants, including the Willow Run Transmission, Ypsilanti Transmission, Flint Stamping and Grand Rapids Stamping plants, leaving as of this morning, a total of 29 factories shut down. The new closures represent nearly half of its hourly manufacturing work force, pushing the strikes into its third week straight. Robyn Hudgins, an American Axle worker, stated in an interview "I don't understand why we are talking about buydowns for a company that made $37 million last year. GM, Ford, Chrysler workers all got to maintain their wages, and those companies lost billions".
I wonder if it really is wise for General Motors to be restoring GM's CEO, Rick Wagoner's, paycheck back to $2.2 Million, during a time like this when every cent counts? What do you think?
