The "HLA" system utilizes a hydraulic pump and motor in combination with a high pressure accumulator, that recaptures kinetic energy while braking which is then released when accelerating to assist the engine. The system has been rumored to achieve a fuel efficiency rating of 60 miles per gallon, but that has not been confirmed.
