Locating Key on Power, 12v Light, and Ground Sources:

12v Light Source:

The 12v light source is located behind the headlight control panel. Removal of the control panel can be accomplished in two ways.

  1. Remove the fuse box and reach up under the dash and push it out
  2. Carefully use a screwdriver to pry the edge of the panel from the dash and pull it out with your fingers.

The wire to be tapped for the 12v Light source is the Blue w/ Red Tracer located behind the dimmer switch

The D-PIC offers an optional dimming/nighttime illumination wire for adjusting brightness while driving. Supplying 12v to this white wire will cause the D-PIC to dim to half of its normal operating brightness. It is suggested to connect this wire to the vehicle dimmer switch (as shown above) so the D-PIC dims when the headlights are turned on.

Key on Power source (3 methods):

It is recommended to run an in-line 1-Amp fast-acting cartridge fuse in all key on power applications.

Tapping into an existing wire.

To find a key on power source on an existing wire, use a test light or multimeter and probe any 16 gauge wire located in the factory harness under the dash and locate a source that has power only when the ignition switch is in the "on" position.

Using a fuse tap in the factory fuse block

Using a test light or multimeter, find a fuse in the factory fuse block that has power only when the ignition switch is in the "on" position. Remove the fuse, test to see which side of the fuse terminal is hot and install a fuse tap on the hot side of the fuse and reinstall the fuse. Note: Be sure the fuse tap is on the hot terminal side in the factory fuse block. We found that the fifth fuse up from the bottom, on the right hand side gave us key on power. The hot side of the fuse terminal is to the right as shown by the fuse tap.

Painless Performance 7-Circuit Auxiliary Fuse Block #70107

This multiple circuit fuse block provides electrical power sources without additional strain on the factory electrical system. The fuse block assembly is designed with 7 circuits, 3 have constant power and 4 are powered when the ignition is turned on. This modification was installed on Project "JAKD" for the sole purpose of running aftermarket accessories so the key on hot source was readily available.

Ground source:

The most readily available ground source is located behind the dash panel on the right hand side.
