The "horntones", essentially a music device, which the inventor admits seems to be created out of the desire to get back at the teens who scoff at his ride, is sure to hit sales records in the low dozens once introduced later this year. Basically, it's a musical PA system, the kind that has been a staple of JC Whitney catalogs for over 20 years. The twist: you can upload your own custom tunes to it. So, it's a big amplified speaker that plays your tunes, right? Well, yeah, but only after you've gone to their website, registered an account, and used some sort of funky process to convert your tune to their music format. You know what would be cool? If there was like some sort of defacto-standard for computerized/digitized music. We could call the format something like 3PM, and then people could write all sorts of little applications to convert songs to this unified format. But in the meantime, I guess if you want to be at the bleeding edge of customized horn music, you gotta convert your files via their website. • Related story: The $40,000 MP3 Player Triple Friday Beerblog: Another Reason Why Living In Russia Sucks Double Friday Beerblog: Hearse Con 2008, Complete With Machine Guns, Skulls, And Blow Up Dolls Friday Beerblog: Tornado Tosses Cars Around Like Leaves Friday Beerblog: When You're Too Fat, Even Your Hybrid Hates You Friday Beerblog: Captain Insane-O Crash Begs Question, WWJD?
