Project Rockstar
Project “Rockstar” is Truckblog’s proof that real trucks are built, not bought. And that’s where you will find a High Output 2003 Cummins 5.9 liter ISBe Turbo Diesel engine wedged between the framerails of a Ford Superduty. Combining Ford’s stout chassis and beautiful body lines with the Cummins power plant results in the truck that nearly all truck owners wish Ford had built in factory.

With a goal of building a reliable, daily driven truck capable of putting 550 horsepower (and 1,100 ft-lbs of torque!) to the ground, the Cummins engine was the perfect candidate. With only electronic performance modifications, the truck pulls harder than the heavily modified Powerstroke it replaced, with a dyno sheet to prove it. This ongoing project will document both the engine transplant and transformation of the mild-mannered ISBe engine into a fire-breathing twin-turbocharged beast, all the while being a daily driven machine.

Project Rockstar started out as a box stock 2002 Ford Superduty, ordered from the dealership with the parts needed to get the truck lifted, and ready to rock ‘n roll. Over the last five years, the breadth increased to include diesel performance, chassis and suspension improvements, interior refinement, and overall driver comfort. The truck is now loaded with a ton (quite literally) of upgrades that span the interior, exterior, and underneath the hood.
