14.5 volts is what kills the gel batteries...like the otimas. 13.5 is about the max it should see.

Try going with an AGM battery. I've modified my alternator with an external regulator to keep voltage at 13V during engine operation.

And underdrive pully is bigger than a stock pulley, reducing load on the engine, no?

13.7 is the sweet spot number. Anything over or if you see an excessive rise with RPM increase.. its usually the voltage regulator.

Mike.. for christ sakes man.. go drop $30 on a voltmeter.

alternator was screwed. it's under warranty so Ford replaced it for free. i'll put a better one in later, for now Ford's will do.

just lucky, i think...

They actually still have it. Should get it back this morning. They are under strict orders not to reprogram for the passenger airbag safety recall and not to drive the car.

Wish I had a valet mode which would keep it from building boost.

Anyway, i took a picture of the odometer before I left (in front of the service writer) so hopefully that will keep them from taking it for a joy ride.

glad you got it figured out.

All you really have to do is prop the blow off valve open, and it will never build boost...=)
