| I am anal too! My "L" and the 2 family Explorers I have are black. My last 4 trucks have been black.
This is what I do to clean black paint, that has some embedded dirt. 1. I wash with a good car wash I got this thing for RainX Car wash right now with a very clean micro fiber mitt. 2. clay bar the whole vehicle 3. use a good cleaner polish-glaze such as Poorboy Profession Polish I use this with a D?A with a foam Sonus pad 4. Then use a Scratch remover such as Poorboys SRR-2 on the complete vehicle. 5. Then top it off with a Carnuba Wax Poorboy's EX is what I use. Applied with a D?A buffer and a Sonus foam pad. It takes about 4 hours to do the whole job.
This with regular washes twice a week and a quick detailer once a while should last for month and just re-Polish then wax.

| I wash my truck quite a bit...so I don't go through the whole gamut of things listed earlier...although it is sound advice.
Samantha is correct ...the Mr. Clean is in the deionization of the water. Since the damn filters only last about one wash on my truck...I got smart and stopped using filters...plus you still need to chammy or use a micro fiber to get spots off anyway.
So I use the Mr. Clean hose attachment and I fill it with McGuires soap. I like being able to switch back and forth between the soap and water. Anyway, when I'm done I use the spray on wax (the kind you can spray on a wet car) and use a chammy to dry over it. The combination of the spray wax and chammy will get rid of all spots.

| | Or, you can be like me, and let the paint go completely to shit, and save your money to get it repainted.(I am still in the saving money phase of this plan) | |

| I'm anal and lazy...dangerous combination.
For drying I still use an Absorber...still trying to find a waffle weave MF towel that works well for my clumsy hands.
Once you have a good topcoat, drying is quite easy. For your final rinse, let the water gently cascade from top to bottom. You'll find that that there's very little work to do.
I lathered on some Poorboys EX myself today. I've found this and Adam's are excellent topcoats for black - both are very easy to use with great results.

Take care, Jerry | |

| Wow, how can you live with yourself Mike? Are you sitting there playing with knives and not hitting the table ever?
My next vehicle is going to be black for sure. I miss my old black truck and how good it looked when it was clean. Now wether the new vehicle will be a mustang gt or a powerstroke f-250, only time will tell.

| As the owner of a black truck myself, I have found that after washing and rinsing, doing a final "mist" rinse of the vehicle (no fancy tools, just the normal sprayer)is best. Then I hop in and go for a burn down the highway. Dries up everything nicely. As a mother I don't always have the time to pamper my other "Baby". I have to cut corners where and when I can. Besides, it is nice to enjoy the peace and quiet in a fresh washed ride...um...does that make me a bad mother? | |
