No, it's a friends... I wish it was mine, but I don't think I would ever own a boat.

speaking of towing: FEMA is offering 1 ton and 3/4 ton truck owners $1600 per trailer to tow trailers to new Orleans.

The advertisement is on Houston's Craigs list

Ken, how did that F-150 tow? I towed a medium sized boat with a 2006 FX4 Supercrew last week, and it didn't tow worth a shit. The boat wasn't huge, it was no aluminum rowboat, but it was maybe a 20 footer, and it was bouncy as hell and struggled to accelerate on flat (for western Washington) ground. What gives?

I don't know if you can call it towing, but I took my Expedition and latched on to a tree trunk that was 12-14" in diameter and with a few pulls yanked that think out of the ground. I know it was taking Nukie (my Expedition) and was pulling it around pretty good. But, I won in the end.

If you want pictures of the whole left in the ground, just hollar. I know I have a few.

Chris "Thermo" Coleman and Nukie, the radioactive 97 X

P.S. This is why Nukie is going to be retired here shortly and a built F-350 is going to replace it. I need something with more pulling power. I think the new 6.4L diesel with upgraded turbos/intercooler, new computer, and exhaust with a bit of head work should do the trick. Worst case, I will also add a propane injection kit too.

I had a 3.73 Rear Axle & the 5.4 V8 in that 04. What's in yours??

I towed that on the hiway for an hour, kept the speed at 60 MPH. If you look on pg 1 of this thread you see a pic of what was a real challenge, 1500 lbs for the trailer & maybe 5500 lbs for the 78 F150.

Just a small trailer with either the toy or the 52" cut skag lawn mower.

(Just took this pic, happened to still have the trailer because I was too lazy to offload it last night in the dark)

Ken, it was an FX4, so it would've had the 3.73. It had 20s, which could've made a difference. I guess the only things I've really towed with are diesel trucks, which don't even know anything's behind them, so I'm a bit biased.

I towed a friends el camino once before I removed my bumper and hitch. Since then only 20 sheets of 3/4" mdf in the bed. (that actually only made it sit 1" below being level with the front)

I have also towed a 73 El Camino with Nukie (may be car rest in pieces, got totaled shortly after getting it by my 17 year old son). I have also loaded 27 sheets of sheet rock and 7 sheets of 1/2" plywood along with 4 guys. Keep in mind that this is an Expedition. I have also loaded a ton (literally) of rock into the back too on a separate trip. Both of those made the truck ride really nice. Surprising what loading the truck up will do.

I checked with a friend last nite on the bouncing - It can be caused or added to by having the hitch sitting too high. Having the right drop hitch on the Truck can really reduce the amount of bounce. Stiffer/Heavier Trucks don't feel or are affected as much by the bounce as the light softer riding Trucks.

Changing the total height Will change the gear ratio http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html Use this link to see the difference from stock size.
