On the way home last night I was headed south on I-5 in the left lane flying along at my usual 70 (or so) MPH. Something in the northbound lane caught my attention (headlights pointed directly at me?). When I glanced over I just saw a sedan sliding sideways up the center two lanes – but only until it converted its momentum back into forward motion – right toward the Jersey barrier! Not sure how hard he hit it but I (think I) saw the backend of the car lift up as it smashed into the wall. When he hit the barrier he caught it right at the point where two pieces joined together and pushed them into a V-shape.

Here’s the fun part!

The barrier pushed out almost into my path! I was so close to the impact that I drove through a shower of broken glass, a turn signal and who knows what else. When I say I drove through the shower I mean that stuff hadn’t had time enough to hit the ground before I flew through it. Don’t know how close that barrier came to me but it was pretty freakin’ close!

Talk about a dose of adrenaline! I was still shaking pretty good 10-minutes later when I got home.

No, I didn’t stop. I figured there were about a gajillion people behind him that weren’t going to go anywhere for a while that could deal with it. I just needed a change of shorts.

Holy shit batman! That's crazy! Any idea why he/she may have lost control? It was raining last night, wasn't it?

Any damage to your car from the glass?

Glad to hear you made it out of that situation ok, what a close call. I bet you really did need a change of shorts... phew!

No idea how or why they got into that mess. I can't think of anything other than somebody did a PIT maneuver on them that caused them their hind end to come around. The roads were dry at the time.

No damage to my car. Sounded like I just got pelted by a bunch of gravel and grit. No doubt I got a few more paint and glass pits to add to an already extensive collection.

Reminds me of a night coming home a fews years ago when a truck about ten car lengths in front of my had his coach fall out of the back of his truck and into my path in the fast lane. Thankfully (I was able to swerve around the largest portion but i did manage to clip a few of his cushions. When i looked in my rear views mirror all I saw was smoke and debris flying everywhere.

Glad your ok
