Ive never really been into guns much. Ive had a Smith and Wesson 9MM Automatic Model 59 for 25 or more years and took a home invasion course with it and became pretty proficient with it. But since then have only shot it maybe 2 times.

Until a month ago my friend who has the apartment in Berlin that I say in every year decided he wanted to learn how to shoot a gun too. I took him to a local shooing range 10 mins from our homes and I hooked him up with a good instructor and he learned about guns and shot a lot over the last month

What happened to me I didn't see coming and would have never expected to happen. Ive become a gun nut.

First I decided I wanted to get another gun so my desire was to get a good .45 automatic. After much research and shooting 12 different brands I came up with what I thought was the best .45 on the planet and thats the old style 1911 made in 1911 and is still made today by many gun companies. So the next step was to decide on which manufacturer to buy. Found that Kimber was the best on the planet out of the box.

So I put a hold on this Kimber Gold Team Match that the US shooting team uses. Its the exact gun they use even down to the US Team Logo on the grips.

Then I got into the Smith and Wesson 357 Magnum Model 686 Plus. The Plus is a 7 round cylinder instead of the normal 6 gun. Its a 5" Barrel Stainless steel. I bought this instantly and will have it in about 13 days
This is the actual gun
Then I decided Id like a nicer looking grip and got this one.

Then I found another Kimber .45 Automatic called the Custom Royal

So I will decide which of the two Kimbers I will get. The team match is one of the best Kimbers but I like the look of the Royal. I may just get the Team Match and put rosewood grips on it to make it look better.

So what do you think have I lost it completely??

What about East LA? From what I see in the news there is shooting going on around there about every day.

Great choices on all of them Lynn. I actually own a S&W 686+ myself and it is one of my favorites of all time that I own. I picked up a Glock 17 today out of 10 day jail.

AS a California gun owner, I seriously suggest you check out this site for tons of info as well as some great deals. I thyink you will be spurised at what you can own in this state.

Lynn, are you promoting drive by shooings? LMAO

I didn't think about the LA situation, nice gun by the way. I have conceal to carry permit in KC. We don't have to drive 2 hours here, only about 7 minutes locally.

Those are both nice, I never really got into the 1911's myself, but they are certainly a popular choice. Lot's of aftermarket parts and accessories for them.

Before you go crazy on the grips, I'd put a few hundred rounds through at the range and see what you think needs to be adjusted on the grips first. I just wrapped a Hogue grip around my H&K USP and was happy.

Good choice Lynn. Just keep eye on them. For a while Kimber had alot of problem with reliabilty issues. I know I had 3 of them, all different models.
Custom Target 2 in 45ACP, SIS Custom in 45ACP and Stainless Ultra Carry II in 9mm.
The Custom Target 2 and the SIS were sent back 3 time for reliabilty issuses. Even after the 3rd trip I still had problems.
The SS Ultra Carry 2. On the second trip back to Kimber they replace the gun itself. Once I got that one back it was reliable but I didn't want to take any chances so I got rid of it.

From what I understand, read and fired other people Kimbers. They have been get there act together over the past year or so.

I went with Kimber on great comments from other shoot that I shoot with. I guess I was one of the unlucky ones. Sorry no pics of the Kimbers

I'm a SpringField man now. I have 4 SpringFiels 1911 now.
SpringField TRP. New winter carry gun.

SpringField Loaded, Old winter carry gun.

2 SpringField EMP's. Spring, Summer and fall carry gun.
#1

I don't have a pic of my second EMP. Right now the second one is in the SpringField Custom Shop being set up for compatition shooting.

Right now I am putting together a list of want for my Custom build for next year. I'm trying do deside on who my builder is going to be, It's between LesBear and Wilson Combat.

Your right Devnull. Ill not put the grips on the 357 for a while and I'll see what the stock grip is like. Its a Hoag and Hoags are very good.

Bryan
I have a feeling that Kimber has made a lot of improvements since your bad luck. But as it is at this moment Im not commited to any of them I just have my name on them at the moment.

I will look deeper into the Kimbers. But so far all the instructors say they are the best gun out of the box especially for trigger. At least Kimber guarantees them fully but sending it back is not fun.

Sweet!

So...German guy, German Apt, no German Gun?

Glock, HK, or even a Swiss Sig Sauer?

My sigs are nice too, revised grip, low kickback...

Check out the Sig 220.

And yes, these guys have offered great suggestions - put some rounds through the range guns to see how you like it!

Well here is an update on the guns I now have and am getting

This is my old Smith and Wesson 1911, Model 59 9MM automatic

This is the Smith and Wesson 357 magnum I bought last month.

This is the Rugar MK III 22 Automatic stainles with a 6 7/8 inch fluted barrel that I bought 2 weeks ago. Its great for target and just plinking around. Its supper accurate and shoots just about any 22 ammo.

The 45 Automatic has changed three times from a Kimber Match gun to a Kimber Royal and now for sure I have bought the Kimber "Raptor II" This is a brand new gun also and I pick it up on Monday Oct 5th. Im just waiting my 10 days now. Here is what it looks like and I will post a picture of the one I bought after Oct 5th

Also since I posted this I have shot the Smith and Wesson 50 caliber "500" LOL. I can honestly say its a hand held cannon which is now the biggest hand gun in the world since the 44 Magnum that Dirty Harry had. Frankly its not comfortable to shoot so I can safely say this will not be in my collection. Here is what it looks like.

But what IS coming into my collection is this Original Russian SKS Assualt Rifle. Picture is the one I bought.

Its California Legal folks.
I found it at a gun show and put a down payment on it. I pick it up in about 3 weeks. It uses an armor piercing 7.62X39 cartridge.
This one was made in the Tula Armory in Russia in 1950 and rebuilt in the 60s at the same armory. I dissasembeled it completely at this guys house after the show and its in primo condition and ammo is readily available and cheap. This was the precursor to the AK 47 which the Russians also made. The SKS uses the same Cartridge as the AK 47 and was copied by 24 countries but the russian one is considered a Curio and a relic so it will be safe to own forever. As you can see it come with the bayonet.

My friend and I also found out there is a group of guys and police officers that are going to have a AK 47 gun building party right near my house. You buy a full AK 47 gun kit except for the reciever which makes it legal. Then you build the reciever at this guys house. He has the jig to make it.
Then it comes under a home built gun that is legal in california with a 10 round clip. We are thinking of building one later this month. The kits run from 150 to 225 dollars.

Thats about it for now.

Hey, that SKS is just like the one we shot at the range a couple months ago - bayonet and all. We had to stop 3 seperate times to let the barrel cool off. Every bit of metal in front of the trigger was so hot you couldn't touch it.

It was very accurate though. We were shooting the 300 yard gongs with the iron site.

You are building quite a nice collection, Lynn! I think you are really going to be happy with that SKS. I've owned mine for about 6 years now and it's one of my favorites to shoot! The one thing I did with mine was replace the original stock with one that is fully collapsible and synthetic. Not as pretty but much easier for me to carry around! I've found mine to be extremely accurate.

My brother picked up an AR-15 last spring, now that is a blast to shoot! If you get the chance to buy one of those, I'd strongly suggest doing so :)

Lynn make sure when building that AK47 that you fully understand the laws. If you put evil features on that weapon it must have a magazine lock of some sort. Preferably a Bullet Button. If you are building a featureless rifle then no BB is required. But since you mention that you will be required to use a 10 round magazine that makes me believe you are building one with all evil features such as pistol grip and flash suppressor in which case you must install a bullet button that prevents you from normal magazine release.

Here is a picture of one wiht a Bullet Button magazine lock.

I'm amazed guns are still legal in California. Very nice collection. My son has a BB gun, but no firearms for me yet. Now that I'm a country boy, I'll have to get one.

Mort I think you would be surprised at what we are actually still allowed to own. We are fighting to get our rights back but it is a slow steady process.

We can own AK's, AR's but have to follow a pretty strict list on handguns when buying from a dealer. With a private party transfer/purchase you can at least buy handguns that are not on the DOJ Safe list.

Ive found ammo for my SKS. I now have 1500 rounds and love shooting it.
1000 of the rounds are Armor Piercing steel bullets. Its really fun to shoot.

The 45 Kimber is so accurate. Im blown away (no pun intended) by its performance. Makes me look like a good shot
