Hi guys I'm desperate. 05 F350 6.0 is in a foreign shop 1000 miles away where it overheated and dropped my 3 kids and me. Long history of overheats, coolant disappearances, replaced EGR coolers, oil coolers, cracked head, etc. I probably have the lingo wrong but I sureashell know I've been on a world tour of dealership service departments.

They gave us yet a third set of oil and EGR coolers (since November). We made it 100 miles and oil shot out the dip stick and all over the place. However, in that brief period of motion, we exceeded 100,000 miles. Now I'm just a girl and they're pretty pleased to tell me it's either a short block or a new engine, probably a fuel injector problem, and not their problem. Out of warranty.

We've had six Power Strokes and this has been the only hangar queen. I'm told there's a report called an OASIS report that lists all warranty work since day 1 on the truck. Since I feel like I'm going to have to make a case as to why this s/b a warranty issue, I think I need that report. How do I get one (dealer not anxious to provide)? And really, does this sound like something new or would oil shoot out after the enging overheated for the umpteenth time? thanks for your opinions.

Oasis is actually a system used by Ford Motor Company and their dealerships. It allows them to track warranty work, recall work and (I think) service work.

Any dealership can run a report based on your truck's VIN. The trick is to get a dealership (any dealership) to run it and to give it to you.

Good luck - sounds like you've got your hands full (for a girl... )

MSBo, you should still be covered since you have not had your original problem fixed yet that was covered under warrantee. So, you should be good there. You just need to have the invoice from the repair that was done under warrantee. If you can do that, then you have a very strong case. Besides, having the same issue 3 times already (now on #4), this makes you a candidate for a lemon law buy-back. You may want o consider going that route. I know you might be sentimental to this truck, but to me it sounds like you have been doing a lot of fighting with it and may be time to cut your losses. I would be fighting to do a truck swap over to another 05 truck with similar options and go from there. Might cost you a little bit of money, but what is having a truck that you feel confident in worth?

Thanks for the input. The problem is that they say this is a NEW problem, not the same one they've been fixing. I was unaware of the lemon law thing until now, and they say all bets are off with 101,000 miles.

They've been repairing this overheated engine for a couple of years, always with a new name but always the same problem. Now, even though they've never gotten the problem fixed, they're telling me that THIS time it's a fuel injector, and they replaced those over 12,000 miles ago. Out of warranty.

No sentimental attachment at all. But I'm hoping that if I have a copy of an OASIS report showing the work done under warranty to repair this continuous problem, I can get someone (??) at Ford to help. It would cost a zillion to hire an attorney to do it, so it's pretty much what ever I can get done.

Well, the kidnappers who stole my truck called. I have a hole and a crack in a piston. Can't tell if it's from all those previous overheating incidents.

Does anybody know what would cause this?

Running excessively lean would cause piston damage, especially under boost. You're lucky the piston didn't weld itself to the cylinder.

Running lean also causes an engine to run hot.

Hmmm, I can certainly see a cause and effect relationship between a theoretical problem of running lean on at least one cylinder and an engine that consistently and repetitively overheats despite multiple repairs, and then holes a piston.

Bad injector or a clogged fuel line at least at that injector would probably be sufficient to cause this. I'm not sure how it could get by the computer without throwing all sorts of codes, though.

I am tracking your report this morning, seems when a co worker grabbed the printouts from the fax, they took your report. I am meeting with coworkers this AM to track down the printout. Are you going to want me to mail this to you? If so send me PM with an address.
