I have been around Ford Motor Company since 1993, I left in 2007. I own and built a 1999 Lariat F 150 in 1999. Over the years, as many here will know me I turned wrenches and tweaked my truck to build a custom as you all have at home as well.

I am seriously considering selling the truck loaded as is or stripping it of all the Harley parts and Lightning parts and selling the truck as is.

Any input here, seriously please. The truck has rolled over 200K since April of 1999. The truck has been awesome, not a clean history by now means but a good reliable truck. I am faced with a $600 intake repair needed and may have a oil pump going south, unsure at this time. I am considering what I can recover for parts and sell truck as is for well under what KKB says it is worth.

Please let me know, thanks for you time and thoughts.

Brandon

I know how you feel when you know your vehical is coming to the end of it's usefullness.
Parting it out should get you more of a return on your investment than selling it as a whole.
What Lightning part do you have?

I think you should strip it down and resell the parts. If you sell it you're only going to get pennies on the dollar for the custom stuff and it's really not going to increase the selling price on a 10-year old truck with 200k on the odometer.

With all the online truck sites and ebay - you shouldn't have much trouble selling off the parts if you've set a reasonable price.

So, after you unload that truck, what's next?

Still seems like a couple of thousand dollars worth of repairs is going to be cheaper than selling it and getting something new.

Given everything you've gone through in the last year, I would recommend that you conserve capital and not go starting over on another vehicle.

Assuming the truck is paid for and not showing any signs of major potential failure, there aren't many other options that make justifiable financial sense.

Just an update here, the transmission has begun to go I believe. I will have a real honest answer Tuesday afternoon, they are going to perform a diagnostics on the mechanical and electrical components at 3 PM.

I paid my truck off earlier this year, adn have thought about getting a new one a couple of times. Only problem is, to replace it with something similar options wise (4x4, lariat, 4 dr, lift, stereo, etc) I am looking at @ $500-$800 a month, depending on finance terms, length, etc. It doesn't take too long to figure out that fixing one is WAYY CHEAPER than buying a new one. Figure on $500 a month for 12 months, thats $6K a year. you have < $3K in repairs you are talking about. For me, I ma saving for a long block, cuz whne this one goes, I am going ot put a motor in it and keep drviing it. If you have a $600 intake repair, and need an oil pump, I would spend hte money and put a motor and tranny in it and keep the title at the house, instead of at the bank.

So, now that the tranny has started to go, are you for sure selling the truck?

What Harley and Lightning parts will you be selling?
