I bought a set of American Racing Mojave wheels with the simulated bead locks back in '05 I think. I really liked the way they looked, especially cleaned up, and got tons of compliments on them. As time went on though, the chrome on the bead lock rings began flaking. I had two of them replaced, which helped, but after a few more years of hard travels around Houston (and probably not regular polishing) the chrome was coming back off. My truck looked like this...

This year, after the chrome on the rings got hazy, and I couldn’t get it to polish out, I decided to pull them off. I knew the mounting surface was in poor shape, just not how poor…

So I decided to paint the mounting surface black. It took a while to figure out what worked best and quickest for clean up and removing the crap that was on the rims, but I finally settled on this…

So, cleaned up and taped off,

Primed,

And finished…

I put the bolts back in the wheels and re installed –

And how my truck sits this morning…

All in all, I am pleased with it. I used Dupli-Color self etching primer, 4 coats, and Dupli-Color Wheel black, kind of a low gloss. It looks a WHOLE lot better than before, I just need to polish my wheels now and I’ll be done.

| | Thanks for hte replies. No, I didn't clear coat. I was looking for a matte finish. there are 4 medium coats and 1 heavy coat of paint per wheel, plus the 4 primer coats. | |

| | At the risk of making it look too tacky...how come you didn't match the color of your rig? | |
