I'm looking to purchase a 2007 Chev Silverado 1500 Crew Cab, 4x4. I tow a 35' bumper hitch travel trailer with a weight of ~8000#. What is the towing capacity of this type of truck? I would like to go the 1/2 ton route to save on fuel economy and have the flex fuel option which I believe was only available in the 1/2 ton models.
Thanks in advance for any help anyone has to offer.

In my opinion that's not enough truck. My parents had a 35' TT and they started with a 3/4 ton which still wasn't enough so they upgraded to a 1 ton.

Specs say 10,500 lbs on a bumper pull.

But just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

1. Brakes on the half ton are smaller. Yes, you have trailer brakes too, but just in case.

2. Larger axles increase strength, deal better with increased heat. Full floats have stouter bearins.

3. Fuel economy will actually suffer with 8k behind you. Probably drop deep into single digits with the 6.0 V8 gas motor. With a 3/4 or 1 ton diesel, you'll get 11-13 with an 8k trailer.

Didn't the Chevys go to rear drum brakes on that model as well? If so, don't even look. Towing a trailer that large, I'd want the biggest brakes possible.
