I'm missing something here... You say you can 'drive through the parking brake'. Well of course you can! Ever see anybody power braking? Same thing.
Your putting a whole lotta torque against a brake that's designed to hold the truck still WHEN IT'S PARKED!
To answer your question about having to change the parking brake along with the brakes - yes, you should, if you continue to 'drive through the parking brake'.
If the dealer is telling you that your brakes are within spec, why are you questioning their answer? They are legally implicated if they're telling you the truck is safe when it's not. Stop looking for a different answer.

Driving through the brake is fine. Try finding a steep hill, put the truck in neutral, and see if it holds. If it doesn't, you have a problem. If it does, you're alright. The parking brake on my Chevy G1500 van is pretty light also, but I haven't had a problem with it.
ok see if this helps..The boat is 4000lbs I back it down the BOAT RAMP and set the parking brake so i can put the truck in park to un hook the boat.but the parking brake will not hold to put the trans in park..so the parking pawl is getting all torqed up..make sence now y i need to tighten it up.
