| If your computer only supports USB 1.1, then the Ethernet is probably faster.
If it supports USB 2.0, it's probably a wash.
However, if you use USB, then your only real protection is a software firewall running on your PC. Given the various Windows security risks, and the historical exploits, I would only trust an actual hardware router/firewall.
So, IMO, the best connection is Ethernet from the modem to a router/firewall and then Ethernet or secured wifi from there to the PC. | |

| | We have Cox cable here at the restaurant and I am running our network (XP) thru the ethernet outlet and running my laptop (Vista) thru the usb outlet of the cable modem at the same time. There may be a speed issue, but I don't really notice it. | |
