I've been scanning old photographs - came across this one of my 1969 Olds 442. The picture was taken in early 1975. Man, I really wish I still had that today! Faster'n hell! Comfortable as can be, handled like it was on rails. Sucked fuel at the rate of 9-10 mpg of 'Ethel'. Wonder what it would be worth today?

They had color film back then?

So what were the specs? Engine, transmission? I love the 1969 GM A-bodies, probably my favorite.

Nice! I forgot, in 1969 a 442 still meant a 4-4-2. None of this automatic transmission two barrel bullshit. Nice ride, dude. Whatever happened to her?

I bought her in NJ and drove her back to WA towing a U-Haul. I drove it around here for a couple of years. But she had a few problems such as leaking front and rear seals (which caused some clutch slippage) and when restarting it while the engine was warm you'd hear what sounded like little people hammering on the side of the oil pan. It'd clang like that for about 10-15 seconds and taper off to no noise at all.

I couldn't afford to fix that stuff - heck, I was just an E-3 in the army with a wife and kid. I sold it to a guy who drove up in a newer Hurst/Olds and never saw it again. Reason I finally put up the 'For Sale' sign was because my dad made me a deal on a great '74 Pontiac Ventura (I gotta find a picture of that one and post it).

I was going to be in the army, but they wanted to make me a General right away, and I was all, "dude, I don't know how to be a General," but they were gonna do it anyway, and I was all, "dude, I don't wanna be a General," and they were all, "dude!" and I was all, "Dude!"
