can Anyone help? I recently purchased an 08 jeep libety for my wife to replace an 02 libby that I drive now. I didn't take the 08 on the highway until a few weeks later when I went on a family outing. at 60+ mph I heard this awfull repetitive drone that was only apparent when there is a constant throttle with no exceleration or deceleration. At first I thought it was an alignment problem so I took it to the dealer who said it wasn't the alignment but a tire that they so proudly replaced assuring me it was all gone. Wrong, the sound was still there, so I figured that I had a bigger problem rear diff. sound resongnating through the unibody so I took it to a reputable jeep dealer who tested it told me it was muffler drone. and said there is nothing you can do. I took it on a long 6 hour trip with lots of highway driving to test it and I can't stand the noise, I can't possibly see how a automaker can consider this acceptible. Has anybody ever had this problem?, and can it be solved with a aftermarket exhaust system?

It happened really bad with old Ford Escorts with automatic transmissions. I assumed it was because the engines were vibrating pieces of shit.
This sounds to me like a dealer that doesn't want to deal with your problem. Go to a dealer that will let you test drive an identical 08 Liberty, and see if the drone is there on that one. If not, you've got a problem. If so, eh, I don't know what say.

Regarding Exhaust vibration which can cause the said drone noise, check if maybe there's a counterweight missing from the exhaust system. Many of the newer cars have counterweights for the exact reason.
