I am getting ready to install a Pioneer head unit in my truck and want to hook up a back up camera. I would like to avoid having to run a wire all the way to the back up lights in the rear of the truck for the head units 'sense' wire.

Is there a wire in the cab I can tap into for this? My truck has a console shifter. The back up lights turn on when it is in the reverse position. It seems like there has to be a wire there that makes the back up lights come on. Does anyone know which wire that is?

TIA.

Should be a black wire with a pink stripe behind the driver's kick panel ("DKP").

What head unit are you installing?

Thanks. I'll have to check behind there when I get some time.

I am installing the Pioneer AVH-P4000DVD

Do you have a reverse sensor? If so, you could probably tap into one of the wires in the shut-off switch in the dash.

Thanks for all the comments/advice.

It looks like the best way to do this will be to find the black/pink wire in the drivers side kick panel. If I can find and use that I'll be good to go. If not, I'll have to run an additional wire from the backup lights to the cab. The video cable has to be run from the back to the front anyway, so it will just be one additional wire.

Got most of the parts/accessories/add-ons here, now I just have to find the time to do it. Hopefully the weather will warm up a bit.
