I always wanted another motor bike, had a small 250 cc Honda road / trail back when I was about 21 some almost 30 years ago...

Now my Lads are around that age and wanting bikes for on the road etc - I was thinking that it might be good if we each got one and went riding/cruising together.

My Bro In Law (The lads uncle) is a good 10 years younger than me - reckons he knows everything there is to know bout bikes - and he says Harley Davidson is the way to go..

Me, I always wanted an old Indian Chief - like the old 47 model...but down here they are rare as hens teeth - saw one restored online selling for about $38K

So here I am just surfing the net.....and what do I find?

Yep a NEW Indian Motorcycles web page outta the USA -seems INDIAN ARE BACK IN BIDNBESS STARTING 2009 AND TAKING ORDERS NOW!

http://www.indianmotorcycle.com/

I hope this isn't some kinda joke...

Am I the ONLY motorcycle freak on the forum who likes the new retro Indian Motorbikes?

Anyone know what's likely to happen - will this crew get Indian back on the map and rival the Harley monopoly?

I think maybe it's too early to plough maybe $40K into an as yet unknown quantity, as far as company reliability etc and warranty and so on, servicing, dealerships etc etc...

BUT

If they are still round in 12 months and going strong despite the downturn...well who knows....

I could see me crusing on a Indian moreso than just another Harley!

Am I the only nut case here?

While I was searching for the Indian - I also stumbled across this "Hunter" (Taiwanese/Chinese) made chopper takeoff being imported cheap downunder in 250 cc for the lads to ride as "legal learners" (You have to hold a license for a bike up to 250 cc here for 12 months before you can get a open HP license).

I figure maybe the lads can at least LOOK like they are cool on a mini chopper - while doing their 1 year >250cc bike probation and still hang with dad on the Indian maybe for cruising!

I have to admit I'm kinda looking forward to this but am worried the fiscal downturn might bury Indian before it gets up & going?.

Cheers

I thought they were already up and running, but that shows you how closely I pay attention.

And personally, any bike that isn't a Hardley is fine with me.

I personally like all the bikes a least a little but currently own a 03 Harley Heritage. Indian did come back a while back and then went out again and now it looks like there trying again. I dont think they have a shot at the Harley monopoly I would think someone like Victory would have a better shot at that. Good luck on your hunt and no your not the only motorcycle freak here. Here's a pic of my bike.

I love the Indian. And yes they actually have been making them for awhile again but I dont know their current status.

I have no idea how reliable they are however. The picture you have up there looks awesome.

I rode since I was 18. Started with Triumph Bonneville's that Von Dutch customized for me.

I raced off road in desert and motocross for 15 years. Was sponsored by Yamaha and Maico.

I currently have a custom Harley and am still riding at 67. However most of my friends stopped riding except a legend world champion speedway friend of mine Sonny Nutter. I think he and I are the only ones still on the road from our generation.
Here is the current Harley Im riding.

You don't have to call him Jesus. He's okay with 'Lynn' or even 'Hey you!'.

Gotta give it to you guys - You know your toys & have fine taste!

I have the taste alright - just not the pocketbook to back it up!

I was hoping my 3 now grown kids would leave home to make their fortunes, and in turn - keep me in the manner to which I have sadly grown accustomed!

"She who mistakenly thinks she wears the pants" says it's OK for me to buy the Indian - so that's good news.....but as with life, theres always a damn catch!

Yup - say I have to sell one of my other "Toys" before I can buy the Indian!

She and I obviously live by 2 different standards......mine being - "he who dies with the most toys - wins!"....

So...

Looks like I'm selling my F truck, and Charter boat and all the diving fishing gear etc as well and the Charter Licenses for most of the 3000 Miles of West Coast of Oz.!

Sooo..

Why sell it ALL off...I hear you asking, just to buy a motorcycle?

Well - actually I'm thinking of buying the State Dealership license from Indian for West Oz...

One bikes good - but a whole mess a bikes has got to be better - no?

I've a feeling "she who mistakenly thinks she wears the pants" might not be too keen on such an outlay & risk, but what the heck - "in for a penny, in for a pound" - she will get used to it........eventually!

If not theres always the second option - yep - my way or the fricken highway!

Cheers
