I am installing an air horn to my 2002 Dodge 2500 CTD. I want the air horn to work through my stock horn switch. However, I cannot locate the correct wire in the column that runs to the horn from the switch. According to these guys: http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp~TID~471
it should be blk/red but when I look in the column I can only find a blk/copper(rusty color) and then there are 2 shrink tubes with wires inside, 1 has two wires in it and the other has several but it is shrink tubed all the way to the fire wall and I don't ewant to tear it open if I don't have to. When I use the tester and depress the horn switch the stock horn is activated but the tester does not light up on the blk/copper wire. Does anyone know if the blk/red is in one of the shrink tubes? Again, I don't want to tear open what I don't have to because of the airbags(fuse removed) and all the stereo wires.

As long as you don't touch any yellow wires, you should be fine regarding the airbags.

Can you find the horn thingy under the hood and see what color the wires are there? Perhaps finding the other end of it could be the key.

horn thingy was technical enough to understand for me. lol Wires are aqua/red on the actual "horn mechanism". Is that a little more technical for you? teehee

lol Mort....

The wire at the 'horn thingy' will not match the one under the dash because the color codes are different pre and post relay. Just wire your horn solenoid to the positive wire at the 'horn thingy' and there will be no problems, as it will provide the greater amperage needed for your horn solenoid anyway.

the solenoid draws very little power - 0.5 amps or so. A lot less than the horn itself. It works similarly to a relay.

Like OnRoad250 said, you can grab it from the horn itself.

so when I do eventually add air horns, it "really is best?" to grab the wire from where the horn actually is?

I'm also going to want to be able to blow the horn with the alarm

I get so tired of my weak little horn.. but other mods come 1st..

I just found the hot wire on the back of the fuse block and spliced in there. pull the horn fuse and test which side turn hot when you press the horn. once you find that just add a dual pole switch in there and you can choose which horn will blow. ask DRSpeed I got the diagram and idea from him
