SInce I know you guys ae the mos knowledgable people around, I thought I would ask your expertise on my radiator trouble I am having.

For some unkown reason, my upper radiator hose keeps popping off the radiator, and of course i start to overheat, and radiator fluid all over my engine. It happened again tonight.

My question is, should I get a new upper hose and clamps? Will this solve the problem becasue maybe the clamps are fatigued? My father says it could be a bad resivior cap, making a seal and not letting any pressure escape? Is there a pressure release valve on the radiator that could go bad? Should I take it to a mechanic and have them pressure est the system?

I am at a loss here, and not sure what my next step should be. I hate getting stranded with a hose off my radiator.

Any help or advice would be helpful, thanks guys.

I would replace the clamps and hose....then go from there.......sounds like the clamps may be stripped.

A hose and a cap and a couple of clamps would be the cheapest and easiest place to start, that's what I'd probably do.

Ditto... replace the thermo while you are at it.

Hold on a minute!

Get a new clamp and a piece of fine-grade sandpaper. Rough up the radiator neck and the inside of the hose enough to make the surface clean. Put the hose back on with the new clamp.

Betcha that'll work for ya. I had the same happen to me once - hasn't happened since I did the clean up.

Also, get a Dayco clamp, not one of those cheeseball Ford ones. We have a bunch of problems with those at work, breaking and falling off and what-not.

While it's true that will more than likely work and his solution, his truck is 5 years old, why not go ahead and replace the hose along with the clamps? Anyway, that's what I would do.

Well, thanks guys, I am going to go ahead and replace the hose and clamps, and I am going to use some screw type hose clamps, not the ones that are on there now. I will let ya'll know monday, casue I got to get this done before I go camping this weekend. If you don't here from me, I am either stuck on the side of the road, or eaten by a bear. Going to the catskills.

I second that on the t-stat. If the stat is getting hung up in the slightest, it will cause a bit higher pressure and poof--blown hose. Just think of the hose as the weakest point. But to me it definately sounds like your on the right track.

Have fun upstate, where in the catskills? I have a house near Ski Windham.

If the thermostat is sticking closed it would restrict the flow of coolant into the hose - not cause overpressure.

Well, I replaced the stock clamps (squeeze type clamps) with screw type clamps, and also replaced the hose. I think I may just change the t-stat.

Seems to have run fine on the way up, but it was 1 month between the hose blowing off, so i guess I wil wait and see if it blow off in the next couple months.

Thanks all.

Nother question though, if I get e-fans, does that come with a new tstat or no? Just wondering.

I can tell you that the Flex-a-Lite #270 doesn't and I've never heard of any other off the shelf kits coming with one.
