| If both computers have Ethernet ports (or are already on a LAN), you should be able to share files from her laptop and access them from your PC. It's been so long since I worked with Windows that I forget the exact procedure (and they've probably changed it 8 times for no good reason)... Try to Google for "windows peer to peer fileshare LAN" or something like that. Or "windows SMB share setup".
If you don't have a LAN, you'll need to connect the Ethernet ports on both machines together. To do this you either need a crossover cable, or if you're lucky at least on of the computers has an auto-polarity ethernet port, and you can plug in a regular cable and it will auto-crossover.

| Sharing files from one Windows PC to another should be really easy. More information on what your current setup is would make it easier to offer advice.
We have several PC's here at home all connected to a router for Internet access. All you have to do to share a file or folder on any of the PC's is to turn on file sharing for that file or folder. For instance, all of the MP3 and JPG files stored on my PC's hard drive are accessible from any of the other PC's we use. It takes seconds to set up.
Once you get the files from her old Toshiba onto your Windows based PC. getting them onto the MAC? I have no idea. It would be much easier if Apple had followed some of the industry standards. Maybe one of the Apple gurus can help with that, if you can find a good one.

| Thanks for the replies. I am not worried about getting them onto her Mac, just want ot clean up her laptop and sell it. It is currently collecting dust in the closet.
EDIT* I'll post up the specs in a little while. Gotta put the kiddo to bed. |

| | First, are you running on a network, IE through a router, if so on Windows Vista you have a File transfer system built into to it and I do believe there is one built into XP | |

| | the easiest way to transfer the files is via a USB stick or if you have a ton of data, purchase a fat32 external hard drive. The fat32 will be recognized by both mac and windows. I'm going to assume you have leopard on the mac? | |

| Or if you JUST purchased the Mac, take both computers to the apple store and they will do a full data transfer for free. Once thats done and you confirm you have everything moved over, then do a factory restore on the laptop from the restore cd's. It will wipe your computer and make it like you just purchased it.
