I know many of you aren't friends of IE but I downloaded IE8 Beta 2 this morning and I'm already impressed and I'm a big fan of Firefox!

It's UI is pretty much the same as it's always been but the security features are better integrated and allows for private web surfing without having to go clear temp files, history, cookies etc..

One feature that I really like are the accelerators that are available. Just highlight something, click on the accelerator icon that appears and you've got a list of customizable actions you can choose from (like: define, email, translate, blog, etc.).

I'll download it on the home machine later and give it a more robust shakedown. So far it looks like I might use it in place of Firefox.

Check out the latest parts and accessories from Truck Hownd

I might download it onto the Wife's system to give it a try. Don't want to take a chance with Beta software on my 'business' computer. What would I do if I couldn't get to TruckBlog?

Jason, Jason, Jason - you're too young to subscribe to the "Old dog, new tricks" philosophy.

I've been using it extensively today and while it look a lot like IE7 - the enhanced functionality is pretty cool.

IE only works on that fucktard OS, so I won't be able to give it a try.

I'm not a huge fan of Microsoft these days... especially their browser. It's by far the most non-compliant browser to develop for. I hope that changes with IE8. Since I gave Microsoft's OS and browser the bird last November I run nothing but Mac OS X and if I have to (stress HAVE TO) then I fire up VMWare, start up XP or Vista just to run IE, then I shut its ugly mug down :)

My guess is IE8 is more bloated with useless crap than IE7 and still is standards non-compliant as it ever was. In closing, I hate IE :)

"on a 10-site scenario test, Firefox 3.0.1 consumed 159MB of memory. IE7 consumed a heartier 250MB. IE 8? A whopping 380MB of memory. Yikes."

I hate Microsoft :)

I know you do...

Now I'm gonna have to download not only Chrome but the beta version of FF3 when I get home. At work, however, I'm afraid the browser of choice (mandated) is IE. I just thought playing with the new beta was an improvement.

I am in the same boat as the rest of you. My home systems all have FF and Opera for browser defaults.

It is still a beta.

And besides, who cares how big it is?

Well, what are they talking about when they say memory? Are they talking about ram used while the program is running? If that is the case, I sure be interested in finding out how they got those numbers. I have IE 7 running right now and task manager tells me it is using 61,200k. That seems just a bit shy of the 250Mb they are claiming.

If they are talking about the amount of disk space used to store the application, again, I have to say, who really cares?

I recently downloaded a video blog from one of the best websites in the entire world, and that video consumed about 346Mb for a 14:36 clip.

I just opened 12 tabs in IE7, including the 5 listed in the Fudzilla article and still only show 151,832k of memory being used.
