Episode #7 is online at www.Truckblog.TV and Apple iTunes at http://itunes.truckblog.tv

http://www.truckblog.com/video/TBTV007

Truckblog.TV demonstrates and shows you how to install Horntones, the ultimate MP3 player for your vehicle which plays your MP3s through an amplified loud speaker.

One thing I'll note, is that during the filming of this video I had the gain on the amp turned all the way down. I did this because it would have blown out our mics if I hadn't... this thing is seriously LOUD when the gain (volume knob) is turned all the way up. In doing some weekend driving tests, we seriously spooked people that were stopped next to us at a light, or people walking along the side of the road. It's really REALLY loud, and really REALLY fun :)

Also not mentioned in the video, the folks at Horntones are coming out with a new player next year that will have both a mic input as well as a Line-In input (to connect to your iPod). It will also have a larger memory capacity.

Let us know what you think!

Took me a second at the beginning to figure out why the audio sounded like it was recorded in a garbage can.

The outtakes at the end were hilarious...

Couple of questions... When finding the switched-12V wire behind the radio, wouldn't it be better to tell people to consult a color-code chart online or something? Also, why did you run the cable from the headunit thing to the amp outside the console like that? Unless it's only going to be installed temporarily, it would look neater to run the cable out the bottom of the console. Lastly, those 3M scoth-lok connectors can tend to be unreliable, although they are easy to use.

Very nice overall production though, could easily see that being played on TLC or something on a Saturday afternoon.

Not Bad Guys. I agree about hiding the controler cable better. That way there is less chance it will get pinched on some thing or pulled out by a foot that is near it.

Freaking those people out in the Vons parking lot was the best part! The speaker is super loud, it's hard to place emphasis on it.

Yes, it would have been a good tip to have people consult a color code chart. I agree... there are a few things I wish I had mentioned, but it's a wrap as they say and we have to move on.

The center console: that's a tricky bit there. The problem with the center console is that it can flip up to make that into the 3rd seat in the front row of the cab. When it flips up it really moves in and around... I tried playing around with the idea of having it come out the bottom or the side but it's just not possible with the side brackets that hold it on, and the fact that the bottom moves so much when you flip it up. So the only other option is to have it the way it is. I'm still trying to come up with a better solution but to get it installed and wrap up the video that's where it ended up :)

No biggie. The videos are exceptionally well produced and I'm sure it's hard to find the line between making it widely applicable and not too specific to any one vehicle.

For future reference, the radio surround can be swung out of the way to the right if you disconnect the passenger air bag light wire. It is a small clip and the entire surround can be rotated.

I also would've routed the wires for the controller in the console and out of the bottom

Oh, I know... I've disconnected ALL the cables on the surround before. I just wanted to show the simplest way to handle the job, which didn't require disconnecting any cables.

The problem with the center console is you can't route the wires out the bottom or even the side, because once you swing that baby up for a 3rd passenger, the wires swing with it and cause a huge mess. Believe me, I tried every possible option.

its been in the back of my mind now for a while..

when saying its really loud, do you see people with really clean and loud stereo systems getting this in addition to their system??

Im gonna have a really big system again, this time in my truck of course.. 5 amps running tremendous wattage.. including 2 of them for the 4 12s..

anyways, we are building the roll cage so that my amps will all be mounted at the top of the cap with the bottoms facing down, between bars of the roll cage.. does that make sense? other stuff will be up there too.. so I'll be able to wash mud out of the bottom of the truck without fear.. and everything will be out of the way..

my point is this question.. and I couldnt find it on the website, which I bookmarked.. How Big Is Their Amp? I'm trying to see if Id have room for it up there.. Id probably mount the display up there too..

Id like to know in 2 tuesdays or less.. my roll cage will probably be planned out on that 4th tuesday of the month.. and when I get back from the Corpus Christi Heatwave, I'll prolly drop off my truck, so they can build my roll cage, and leave spaces between the bars in my roof for the amps and 1 processor going up there, plus whatever else..

no I wont buy the systems yet, tho I already have a few of the amps from my last system.. I'll be broke from paying for the custom roll cage and offroad racing seats.. but I'll have the room to come back and add everything else too.. and right now I really think Id like to leave a spot for that horntone amplifier up there.. I just cant find its dimensions on their web site..

please measure it for me?

oh and do you think it would look cool if I replaced the bottom of it with plexiglass, which would show.. which is how all my other amps will be.. all tho secured by a combination of steel plates covered in cushioning and fiberglass..

I'll measure the amp for you but did you just try contacting them directly? They are very responsive. Their support email address is on this page:

http://www.horntones.com/support.html

Be sure to tell them you found out about it from Truckblog!
