| | Bike into the bed first idea would be a ramp and ride/push it up. Or find a little bit of a ditch or hill or something and back the truck up to it so there isn't as much of an angle to get it into the bed. Now tie downs I've seen bikes strapped tons of ways usually 2 around the handle bars and 1 through the rear tire. But some of the other guys on here might have better idea's on tie downs. | |

| You deffinitely want to try to find sometime to minimize your ramp angle, my brother and I put his crotch rocket in the back of my truck using my 2x6 tail gate board and it sucked. It bottomed out and it was a pain in the ass, at bad angles above and below us. I haven't looked at any newer trucks for a while, but you should be able to take a pocket knife and hold the flat steel spring out on the cable and then go up and off of the post with it. Then you just have the gate at the right angle to take the right side hinge off by pulling it back towards you and away from the truck. Then you just move it to the right and it's free. I would strap the hell out of it just to be safe. Other than that one time I don't haul bikes, but I haul everything else. I would put on on each handle bar or fork, on on the rear tire, and also one across the seat to help it stand up straight. Of course you prolly won't have a good spot to hook that center one, but if you can hook it under the lip of the bed rail, you can get it pretty tight without prying the rails out, and I think that helps a lot to keep them upright. This kind of situation is why I personally don't like a 6' box. They are still a lot to turn anyway. They don't make them like mine anymore, F350 crew cab long box with single rear wheels. You have to get a dually to get an 8' box crew cab :(. You could also use a plank to stick out and help support the rear wheel, and possibly run your straps down to the hitch.

I saw some idiot towing a car and only had it tied down with four 1.5" or maybe 2", but not thick 2" (& even then), ratchet straps. Flying do the interstate at 75. Thank goodness he was flyin by me as I was slowing down and taking my exit! | |

| I Have put my Harley in the back of my Lighting many times. It will go in that bed diagonally and you can still close the tail gate.
Normally when carrying dirt or street bikes in the back of a pick up I run them straight into the bed and just use two tie downs off each side of the handle bars forcing the bike into the back of the cab or bed.
When You do a bike diagonally you have to use more tie downs to the rear as well.
I have had as many as three Harleys in my 86 4X4 by putting two straight in on the left and the right sides and a third backed in and tied hard into the tail gate.
I do the same with dirt bikes on all my trucks that I have had. But you need a normal long bed of 8 ft I think it is.

But I am warning you, I am one windy *er when I start taking about trucks and towing and stuff! Just searched Google for a truck forum so talk about my truck and stuff. People I know get tired of the lengthy one way conversations. That includes my dad and uncle who have had big diesels for towing for over ten years. We went from a 91 Jeep Comanche 2wd 6 cyl 5 speed pulling our 16' stock trailer to an 85 F250 6.9L diesel! 2.5 clutched in the Jeep, but I still got her and she still runs good. Those 4.0L I6s are tough! Overheated it to STEAMING a few times getting stuck. I also used to pull full size cars out of the ditch with it and it was only 2wd. Snow studs :). The wider cab of the full size was nice too, even though it was still just a standard cab bench seat! It was an auto, but it ran good. I convinced dad to pull over and let me drive on the way to MO one morning because he was too damn sleepy. Mom wouldn't let me get a run for those long MO hills, then she told me I shouldn't shift down into 2 from OD when it took forever to get up them. I was like mom it's ok I know what I'm doing. Well I'm gonna ask your dad when he wakes up. OK, whatever. I was 14. One of my favorite towing stories. I hauled a 1939 John Deere Model L (over sized lawn tractor, but still a lot of steel) with my Jeep to school for FFA on a home made flat bed from a satellite dish (8' dish) trailer when I was 14, too. | |

| | Hmm, I sure though they had some time. I didn't mean in 88 or 90. I never see any and I talked to someone about it and they didn't think they made them either. I think once once when I was building a truck on Ford's website for fun one time I couldn't get an srw 8'. Maybe it was some other option that was the problem though. Do they still make them in 09? Ok so they still made them in 05 why do so many people get a 6' box? Not like it's gonna make much difference on the turning radius anyway. And you're already gonna stick out into the isle when parking. I park in the boonies and take two spots every time. My mirrors are just about as wide as the parking spot, too, so I like some room there... | |

But, PLEASE, use some punctuation. Throw in the occasional period, or comma. Maybe even hit the enter key every once in a while.
It gets very hard to read one half page long sentence.
