Now that's the heat!

Now we need one more "P" for Post. With that I can do a whole reply without ever touching the mouse.

Problem is what does "post" mean? Is it a reply or new topic? That's why "R" and "N" were created... they are very clear actions.

I know to what he is referring... posting whatever you have written, be it a new topic or a reply to an existing topic. I didn't get it until I went to reply to a thread just now. Anyways, just thought I would toss that into the ring.

Yep, that's what I was talking about.

Click on a topic. If you decide to reply...

"R"

Then type what you have to then...

"P" - In this instance, post your reply.

For a new topic...

"N"

Type what you have to then...

"P" - In this instance, post your topic.

Doesn't matter though. Happy with what you've done and this was truly unexpected. We always want more don't we

Yeah Kenny... you are so darned demanding! But think about it... a simple "P" would not suffice. It would have to be Alt-P or CTRL-P since while typing a reply to a topic on your computer you might just type the letter P!

OK, this is just the geek in me trying to figure out the easiest way to have implemented this.

Here's what I am getting - some sort of hidden text box that is the focus of the cursor when the page is loaded, that uses JavaScript to monitor when a key is pressed and check it against the ones in your list.

So, I think that Ctrl-P and stuff might not be detectable, since those are actually considered two keypresses on most keyboards (although the user experiences only one). Same thing with the Function keys and some other ones.

Am I even close?

Nice. I just used it just now. The hard part will be turning it off in my mind when I visit other message boards.

Glitch Found

When I use the "R" for reply, everything goes great until you post, then it takes you to the "returning to the post" thing, or whatever, then I get just the menu. Am I the only one?

It still works the right way when I click the link, though.

I got that problem as well.... funny, I didn't notice it last night when I tried it out. Of course I haven't been using it because I keep forgetting about it. Just press 'A' once you have posted and it should be okay.

EDIT ~ Um, no that does not work. Bummer.

Unfortunately this isn't possible as a few people have replied... it would have to be a Control character and would be quite confusing. Just do what I do... hit TAB twice and then the SPACE bar :)

It's not a hidden form field or anything like that, rather some JavaScript that monitors key presses and detects a certain character and takes an action based on that key press. It's pretty simple... I just felt the need for it yesterday after using it a lot in Google's GMail system so I said "I must have it here!!"
