Ain't Mustangs fun? That's a nice ride there Sprocket.

Is it an original 5.0? The '87 LX 5.0 came with the '5.0' badging on the front fenders. If it's a 5.0 car there'll be an "M" in the VIN versus an "A" (for the 2.3L).

There were 94,441 hatchbacks made in '87. The EPA estimate for 5.0 with manual tranny is 18-city/27-hwy. Top speed = 137mph. Not too shabby, eh?

Let me know if I can help. I've got tons of Mustang literature.

Congrats. Yea those things haul ass. They don't weigh much either. I have a friend that used to own one. He just did some minor mods, nothing that was too technical and he was buying rear tires every 3 months.

Yeah it's like I'm driving on ice....every turn I can't help but be sideways.

Tom can you tell me what color wire for my stereo is the accessory wire? I can't find it. I've got everything else hooked up fine but every time I turn off the stereo/car I loose all my settings.

The wiring diagrams that I have don't list an accessory wire specifically for the radio. But the accessory wire is typically a light blue. Sorry - I don't have much to go on for 87 stereo wiring.

...damn - failed on the first test...

Nice toy. I just got the wifey an '08. It's alway been her dream to own a Stang.
If you loose the setting when you shut it off, one of the power wires isn't connected to battery constant. If it's an aftermarket head unit, typically the red wire goes to Ignition and the Yellow goes to Battery.

Well hot damn it's not an original....I just check the vin and sure enough no M but an A.

I just changed the spark plugs and finished my stereo system adding a JBL 10" so it's got just the right touch of base.

I've got a pretty much new auto tranny from a 98 4.6L stang I'll hopefully be able to use for a trade to get a t-5 in my with all the gears.

Once the tranny is in I gotta figure out how to get this thing smogged LOL

OK that's my problem....I can't find any battery wire. This thing was a mess of wires all over the car and about 20 fire hazzards because it looked like it had about 10 different stereo setups.

I should be ok then if I splice into my amp battery wire and run that to the deck right?

As said before, red wire should go to a switched 12V, the yellow to a constant hot. If you run the yellow to your amp power cable that'd work, but the best bet would probably be un-install all that hacked together shit under the dash and start from scratch. If you run the yellow and red, the screen will stay lit up all thetime, making it a nice target for theives. This from experience. Does it have the original radio plug?

I spent all weekend taking out all the hacked up shit. There's not much left of the stock original wiring. I got all the speakers hooked up, and the red/yellow hooked up together to the ignition so I loose my setting every time I turn it off. I'll just run the yellow to my amp battery cable.
