Anybody out there tell me what the optimal operating temperature is for a Diesel engine and what the normal parameters should be for pyrometer readings? Also, at what temp on the pyrometer reading is starting to indicate critical.

I pull a lot of weight with this rig and sometimes in the summer when it is really hot - I want to know I'm not asking too much of it on certain grades in California.

Thanks in advance for the info.

What year is the truck? Also the amout of weight you pull will effect the numbers, especially egt, quite a bit.

optimal cruising uladen, your temps should be 600-800F.

loaded, temps should not exceed 1300 for long durations (,ore than 3-5 minutes).

watch your tranny temp gauge. keep it below 210F.
