| | I'm afraid I can't tell you for sure, but when I put my lowering kit on my old F-150, it came with all new shackles. Its not technically a wear part, but they do get replaced now and then. I'm not sure an aftermarket company would make a stock one, though. | |

| Kenny, not sure if this your problem, but you may want to check it out. I had a loud clunk as well and this fixed it....
This is a notorious problem on the 97-03 (04 L/heritage) f150's. Ford geniously slotted the rearward lower A-arm mount on the drivers side, and can allow the a-arm to shift and cause a clunk sound usually while turning and/or hitting a bump in most cases. This is not only annoying & embarassing, but can throw the alignment off causing you to eat more tires up front.
Also, whether you are stock, lifted, lowered, etc. these are a good idea. Even if you don't notice a clunk sound, its a good idea to get a set!
Picture of the culprit....this bolt is in a slotted hole. You can see where it has slipped in the past from the undercoating worn away.

The yellow circle in the lower right shows the location of this bolt in respect to the rest of the drivers side suspension.

Photo of the fix. DL's Clunk Washer's. Machined to fit perfectly inside the slot and center the bolt in the hole.

Here is where you can purchase "Clunk Washers"
http://www.chickenears.com/clunk_washer.htm
http://www.lightningforceperformance.com/lfp-pro-front-clunk-washers-clunk-fix-p-565.html
Hope this helps!!!

thanks for the info, but i dont have A-arms, I have a solid axle setup
there is really only two items left to try, body mounts, and the rear part of the front springs where it connects to the chassis

| | Have you checked the driveshaft? The slip yoke might be the cause of it. | |

| you see I had a HUGE HUGE HUGE post, I thought it was here, but maybe not
it had pictures of the alignment of the front springs of 99-04 SD trucks like mine, it showed how the springs were not like this | | they were like this / Anyway I checked absolutely everything other then 1. Body mounts 2. Piece that holds the front spring rear shackle, still making sure the part number is right for that then ill buy it (34.88 from ford i think was the price per each)
I got 85000 miles so maybe they are due
I checked everything in the front end, sway bars, spring bushings, trackbar, trackbar bracket, shock mounts.
I greased both slip yokes
My MAIN reason to post this thread is to ask where the heck my other thread went, but maybe it was on another site, half the world must know about this annoying clunk by now, I posted it everywhere

| Check the shackle bracket for play. The shackle bolts to the leaf spring eye. It also bolts to the frame. Where it bolts to the frame is called the Shackle bracket. That bracket is also bolted to the frame. Yours could be missing one of the bolts or it is ovaled or bent.

| | My front springs are the same as yours in the picture u had posted last time. I had a clunk that u could hear moving and switching lanes and some other occasions but not all the time. Mine ended up being a loose stabilizer link. I had to have someone turn the wheel while I layed under the truck to find this out. Have u checked this? U couldn't tell it was loose, but it was just enough that the movement of the truck would make it clunk. It took me what seemed like forever to find this. I looked at everything else and it never occurred to me that would be the problem. | |

| We have the occasional clunk on the front of our '00 Expedition... now I know why! I couldn't find ANYTHING loose down there when I've checked in the past.
Thanks for the info on the fix too!

| Glad to see that it is fixed. So I guess the rubber in the bushing gives out? Or did the sleeve oval?

| the rubber inside is over 5 years old and 80,000 miles on it, i would say it was due
but from the rust markings it looks like the bracket would stick and slide on the piece itself, but honestly who knows, as longs as it is ok, im happy
