| There are others on here that are better qualified to answer your question than me....but it sounds like your doing the right things. Attention to detail is what it is all about. The judges will have a checklist of things that they will look at, and this is what will be determined to calculate your score and ultimately your placing in relation to the competition in your class. The judges will also assign you a "class" to compete in.
I would just do your best in preparing...and go have fun. Don't worry about how you will place. Depending on the show...some judges have no idea what the hell they are looking at, so don't get hung up on their decisions. As far as windows being up or down, if you have something that you want everyone to see and there is a "peoples choice" category...you might want to leave them down or open the door. During the official judging, they will either come to you, or there will be "drive-thru" judging. Either way, they will open your doors and look inside. I don't see a benefit of leaving the windows up...so that will be up to you. | |

Dont forget if your going that far with all the painting and everything dont forget the engine bay. Give that a clean up and find a way to prop open the hood half way or so. | You will see people doing both methods. Some doors open, Some windows. I prefer the windows becuase it can be hard to get around doors open when you and your partner both have them open. Definately have access to your interior.
Remove all items from your map pockets seat pockets and such. Glove box and center console are OK for storage.
Also as said. Prop your hood so they know they can look there also. Wipe and spray the entire bay down with WD40. It makes it sparkly clean. Find a unique hood prop or have the hood all the way up. Once again you will see both. Here is my front set-up for shows.

Bottom line - judges will not look under a shut hood and will not go into a locked vehicle. You don't get points deducted if they can't see those areas BUT you don't get points added either. And sometimes you will be off looking at other vehicles when they happen to be judging your truck, so be prepared.

| I know that each person has preferences on how to show a truck or car.
I think the window half down is the most unflattering position it can be in. Leave the windows up and at least one door open. This way the judges can see the vehicle with tinted windows from the outside and still see the interior. Don't worry about people having to walk around an open door. In 121 shows Ive done Ive never heard a complaint. The more you show the more points you get. Simple as that.
Texas Terminator is right.
You dont get judged on things they cant see. Its very important to show everything.
If the hood is not up you get no points for your motor. If you have a nice motor open the hood all the way. If not prop it up like Terminator says. If you have a tonneau or trunk lid and its closed you dont get points for your bed or trunk area.
No matter how bad it looks in there the Judges will give you at least 1 point for showing it and of course more if its clean.
Put Rubber dressing on your hoses and anything black thats rubber. Ive even put a thin coat on black paint inside the engine compartment.
Try to have a little display if you can. Doesnt have to be big. Many shows will give points for a display.
Clean under your wheel wells and put rubber dressing on them to make them look new. Dress all tires.
Clean all interior. Every nook and cranny and remove loose articles like terminator said. Dont have any junk, papers etc in the interior or bed unless its part of a display.

"Macabre Theatre."
She is sort of the new Elvira.
She was very nice and threw in an entire photo shoot with Elvira.
She is so sexy in person I think my camera was shaking LOL.
I have to say she sure helped me get the First Place Trophy for that show which was the "Grand National Roadster Show". Its the biggest and toughest competition show in America. Id even put it ahead of the Carlisle show. |

| When ever I show my truck I have all the windows down. The doors are closed, but unlocked. If anyone wants to open them up and look inside they can. If everyone at the show has there doors open it makes it hard to move around. I have my hood propped open. I have nothing special under the hood. One of the keys to any show is having your truck as clean as possible.

It has been my experience that judges will not open your door or touch anything on your vehicle. The most I saw a judge do was at the Grand National Roadster Show was to literally climb under the back of my truck and look how clean the rear axle and underside of the truck was. The only thing I could see were his legs out the back of my truck from the knees down to his feet. A very funny sight. Fortunately I had just put it on a lift and got under and polished everything. |

Never fails that you get parked in a fresh mowed field or just hoping in and out of the truck you carry "stuff" in on your shoes. Hit it with the duct tape and problem gone. | |

and a new mod..apc corner lenses.. got them for $20 oh and the lights on the bumper are coming off..building a lightbar pretty soon..

one thing to keep in mind is never underestimate your vehicle. Your truck would be classified in the "Street Class" which goes by many other names depending on the show but all it means is your are in the daily driver class for lack of a better name. You would not be competing against a truck like Greez because he would be in the Pro or Highly Modified class.
When your truck is judged, the judges will take into account the age of the vehicle and how well maintained it is. They are not looking for DVD screens everywhere and leather accents and Subwoofers in every nook. In the Street class they want to see well maintained vehichle with nice accessories. Your interior looks great!
Look in the gallery of the link I provided. Look at my truck and then look at the others pictured. My truck won "Participants Choice" at that show. That means the owners of the vehicles shown voted mine one of their favorites.
All I'm saying is don't ever underestimate....

| I agree with Greez, leave the windows all the way UP, open the doors on one side (so the spectators and Judges can look in) and leave the doors closed on the other (so the spectators can take pictures) also never bring previous awards for display, it turns spectators and Judges off. Good Luck.

Your interior is show ready buddy. It looks fantastic.
And listen to Diablo. Never bring past trophies you've won to a show for part of a display. Hes absolutely right.
When you get a lot of mods done its nice to have a show board with those mods listed and what you've done. Ive notice people like reading about what you've done to your car or truck.
And if you get in a magazine its quite permissible to display the magazine somewhere in your display.
There are also some shows that the judges like you to have a "Judges Reference Book" The four big west coast shows asks you to have one. These are The "Grand National Roadster Show" in Pomona, The "Sacramento Autorama", The "Portland Rod and Custom Show" and The "Seattle Roadster Show" http://www.hotrodshows.com/home.html
I take mine to all the shows now. Some judges look at them and others could care less but its there if they want to look into it.

Great Idea on Duct tape. I have it with me at all shows but I use it to cover the long electrical wire that goes from my Generator to my truck that runs all my Stereo and DVD equip during a show so I don't run down the battery. I sometimes have the cable stretched across a concrete walkway and I don't want people to trip on it. Now I have a second use for it. Thanks for the tip.

| | Well I got 3rd Place for the 4wheel drive class.. not too bad..the two trucks that beat me are older chevy's that just got done with a complete frame off restoration.. with pics to prove it.. so i dont feel so bad.. they both spent $20k restoring their trucks.. and I dont even have close to that in mine.. thats including buying the truck.. ill post some pics when i get them uploaded | |

| Thats great. I have tried to use certain things to draw attention to my truck to bring in people to look. To Include Flags mounted to the tool box and a small step block to lift up the front left corner of the truck. I don't have much done to the truck and with the guys I show with, well I don't look so special. So the little here and there mods are coming soon.
And when your nearest competion is this guy with this amazing F150, people kind of forget to look at yours.
But its all good, I have a few ideas to help bring them to the dark side!!!!

| When you consider you were 3rd Place against 2 older trucks with frame off restorations its considered in my book a 1st place win!!.
Trucks that are so old that they require a frame off restoration have no business being in a late model truck class.
I rarely see older trucks in the same class with modern trucks OR cars for that matter.
In the 120 some shows Ive taken part in Ive only been in three shows where they have a class "Trucks 1958 to Present" I still took first place in two of them and the other which was in the California Redwoods I didn't even place.
So Congratulations on a really big win!!
I hope you continue to show your truck but be careful because you can get caught up in it. You see a truck that beats you and you look at what he had that you didn't have and you go out and get it bigger and better than his. Before you know it you have an enormous amount of money in your truck that you will never get out of it.
Oh sure,... you will end up with a lot of 1st place trophies but you better make sure its worth it and that you enjoy it enough to take a huge loss on your truck when you sell it.
