I have stupidly agreed to detail my Son in Laws 40 Foot Sea Ray when he told me he was going to have to pay 1100 dollars to have it done.

He wants to go fishing and boating as soon as he comes off this film in New Orleans, Louisiana and well I said I would do it for him to thank him for taking me all over the world with him on films that he has done.

My question is this. Can I use Adams Machine polish and Adams Machine Wax on this boat or is it better to use Marine Polish and Wax?

I plan to use Adams metal polish on all the chrome and brass etc.

I've owned a few boats in the past Lynn and here are some of the products i use to use. What you use of course depends on how bad the surface is. If it is pretty faded i would certainly use the Color Restorer

Just spoke to Adam:

Boat wax will last longer on boats that live full time in the water. Otherwise, our goods work perfectly well on boats that get pulled out of the water after each use.

Removing oxidation requires a high speed buffer, as gel coat needs heat to let go of the surface oxidation.

The biggest problem with boats is storage, and being covered. That’s when they get super thrashed. Store boats covered completely, or better, professionally wrapped for the winter.

Boats parked in Salt Water full time need to be waxed every 6 weeks to stay in good shape.

There’s the word on boats!

Thanks guys. I think Im going to go Marine then Jason. My son keeps his boat in a slip uncovered but the boat is fairly new. He also keeps it in one of those fresh water bags. Maybe a year and a half old at most and there is not much if any oxidation on it. Will it be ok to use a porter cable with the polish if the boat is not heavily oxidized?

Richard,

I like the idea of Meguires Marine as Meguires has what I consider the best products next to Adams.

Thanks for the suggestion.

So I guess Ill use the 45 and the 56 for the gel coat. It has dark blue on the hull so it should bring it out really nice.

The PC with say a LC White Pad should be fine Lynn. I use to do it all by hand before i purchased the PC. I did use the PC on my wakebaord boat though and it worked fine.
