| Get some Adams Revive. Its a paint cleaner. Then put some Adams butter wax on it.
If you want an easier application use a orbital polisher and use Adams Machine Paint cleaner and Adams Machine wax. | |

do they make anything to stop corrosion on wheels? mine started to get bumps on them from this winter in WI. (didn't have extra cash to get winter rims and tires) Price I have to pay now I guess... | |

| Use clay bar. Once you get them off, they won't come back on.
Its something about tiny flecks of iron from the train car wheels and brakes. Sounds like a buncha crap to me, but the long and short of it is that you can clay them and they'll come right off.
I spent many an hour at the dealer I used to work for cleaning that crap up. | |

When we first got the Wife's Mustang, that is the first thing I did. Well, the second thing, I washed it first. The clay turned orange after working on every panel on the car. Nice and smooth when it done. | |

| They last for quite a while. Go to Adams' web site and check out the video on using the clay bar. You need detail spray to use as a lubricant for the clay.
With the 8oz bar, I ripped it in half, stored one piece and used the other one. I have used the one half on my truck and on the Wife's Mustang and it will do both of them at least a couple more times each. With all the rail dust you have, they may not last as long.
When mine get real dirty, I still use them for parts of the vehicle that are really bad, like behind the rear wheels on the Mustang. We get lots of tar and road debris stuck there. I make a first pass over those areas with an almost used up clay bar and then go over the entire vehicle with a good clay bar. Works like a charm and I get more use out of each bar. | |

The Wife runs a manufacturing plant where they have a railroad spur behind the warehouse. That rail dust gets on every vehicle she drives to work. It's not bad now, since the Mustang is small, it doesn't take long to clean. It was a real pain when she drove an Expedition.
Unfortunately, she has to drive my truck during the winter when the weather is bad, which is 1 out of 2 days, so the truck gets covered with that crap as well. Add to that the unpaved parking area at her work and the fact that there are semi's in and out of there all day dropping whatever they drop onto the ground. It makes for long process for the first detail each spring. | |

| | Doing a full claybar job is a good little workout, especially on a full size truck. Just do your self a favor...if you drop the claybar, even for a second..throw it away. They pick up stuff very easily and the little rocks or whatever it may pick up will scratch the hell out of your truck. So do what Mark suggested, cut it in half right from the get-go...so if/when you drop it, you will have another piece to start with. | |

| After you wash the truck and before you clay it, try the baggie test. Put a plastic baggie on your hand and run it gently over the hood of the truck. You will feel the bumps. Then clay a small section until you feel that the surface is smooth, it only takes a minute. Wipe off the detail spray and try the baggie test on the area you just clayed, you will be amazed at the difference.
Everyone of those little bumps reflects light in a different direction. When you get rid of them, the light reflects in a straight line which makes the shine look so much deeper. |

I'm new to pretty much all of this...my first truck was a 92 ranger stx then went onto a 99 gmc sierra, nice truck but I was young and didn't take care of it...but now that I'm on to this truck want to put the extra effort into it...
I'm looking at adding something more to it but I can't figure out what to add next.... | |
