Went to a shop near me this weekend, and looked into a remote start/alarm.
They sell Compustar products so when I said that I was looking into a Viper alarm they said they weren't all that they are cracked up to be.

Has anyone had any experience with a Compustar?

Check out the latest parts and accessories from Truck Hownd

I've had great experience with Compustar. That's the one I have installed on my rig.

Customer service is great, as they have gone above and beyond for their customers.

Example - even though my remote was working properly, I thought it wa a bit slow. So they exchanged it for a new one.

Another example - A buddy of mine had his keys fall out of his pocket, got run over my a Rhino, and cracked the LCD screen. They exchanged it for a new one.

I spent hours on the phone with them, walking through custom programming steps on my remote to get my truck to do specialized things, like horn beeps, windows, etc. They were really nice, and not rushed into getting me off the phone.

Each one of the tech support guys knows the product inside and out...each employee has it on their own cars...and the best part is that nearly all the guys you deal with are gear heads!

The specific likes of the system:

- Manual Transmission compatible
- 2 way remote paging
- Completely customizable (start vehicle at a certain ambient temp, time, etc)
- RPS: remote paging system. Someone can knock on your windshield, and it will page the alarm.
- Lockout service: you can set a combination lock on your vehicle so you can let open the door in case you lock yourself out.
- Valet mode: self explanitory
- Car jacking vehicle inhibitor

And those are off the top of my head.

Well that makes me feel better, I'm looking at the Pro 9000 I think it is? and they are saying it's gonna be around $700 installed...that doesn't have like the moduale for rolling windows up and down and what not...

I live in an area where I'm not to worried about the security but with this new truck, I guess it would be nice to have the piece of mind! And the remote start would be a godsend! (just got about an inch plus of snow today....still snowing )

Yep, that's the one I have!

The rollup features are an additional module, which you can do down the road if you wanted.

Yes, and yes.

It's all depended on the area. IF you have a lot of electronics interefing, then it'll decrease in peformance obviously.

Tall trucks usually work better...=)

I have the Spread Spectrum Pro series with the GPS and all. I've been using Compustar for years. It's great.

Well it looks like Compustar is going to be the way to go!

I was a little worried at first because I checked around on other sites and I couldn't find many people that have wrote reviews on any of the systems...but having two people happy with theirs on here makes me feel a little better about spending the money!

Yeah, the nice part about the Compustar system is that you can build / expand on it later to add features.

Good choice bro.

Trust, once you get it, it'll be like..."I didn't know it can do this..FKN COOL!"

Just thought I would give you a review on a Viper. I have one in my Lighting with remote start and it has worked flawlessly.

I am now putting another viper in my new truck. This is also a remote start and this one claims you can start your car 1 mile away.

The old one I have in my Lighting is only 1/4 mile distance but then that was purchased in 2002.

When I bought the first alarm I was in Texas for the Heat Wave Show and I was showing my truck. Some people had had their show trucks stolen so I got it done very quickly on short notice at custom sounds in Austin, who sponsor the Show, and they charged me 700 with install.

This new one Im about to put in with the 1 Mile range is only 600 installed.

Hope this helps.

I like the Vipers and I have heard good about them, but the shop that I want to go through won't work on them...they only do Compustar and so far I haven't heard anything bad about them.

Thanks though, all the information I can get is helpful!

Directed Electronics makes:

Clifford, Avital, AutoCommand, Ready Remote, Autostart and Astroflex

Alarm systems.

When I was looking, none made one compatible with a standard shift transmission and a diesel engine.

Nor did any have any two way paging. They do now, but their features are still a bit limited.
