s you all know, when the Rhino fell out of the bed on I5, it bit my tailgate, and bent it out backwards.
So, I bought a used 2008 Superduty tailgate, had it sprayed, and reinstalled on the truck.
The EZ Down, on the old tailgate, had a crush insert that was installed, and once there, was rather difficult (if not impossible) to remove.
I emailed EZ Down, and Kevin Ragen responded.
I told him the situation, and he sent me a new insert, along with the tools needed to "re-insert" it into the new tailgate.
http://www.ezdown.com/
His contact info:
kragan@deezee.com
I had to modify the bracket to fit, but with the insert there, it made the process a breeze!!!
Thanks Kevin!

Two things:
- Where else can you read a sentence like that other than right here at the blog?
- What the hell were you doing with a Rhino in the bed of your truck?

| And thirdly: There is at least one of us who hasn't the slightest clue what you are talking about. I'm fairly sure there is a great story to go with that so please either point me to the original link or tell me the story again. And be sure to do it as only Denny can.

| Rhino.
We’re not talking the horned variety that lives in Africa.
I’m taking about Japanese Rhinos, particularly those made by Yamaha.
I don’t have room to park a trailer at the house, so I usually carry it in the bed of my truck:

So, we were going Rhino-ing one day (yes, I’ve made it into a verb dammit), and there were some guys coming down from CanaDUH. They were running late (perhaps because balloon full of coke popped in their ass), so I decided to run a few errands in town.
I get a call, saying they were 10 minutes out. So, after grabbing a cup of coffee, back into the truck, and was gonna hit the road.
I waited for them near the end of the on ramp, and as I see them in the corner of the mirror, I blipped the throttle, and away I thought I was gonna go.
NO…that was SOOOO not the case.
The Smarty Programmer I have on the truck decided that “Oh, it’s FULL FUEL time,” and gave it all she had.
Chirp went the rear tires, ass end dipped down, and the truck took off like it was shot out of a cannon. (With a Rhino in the back, traction was NOT an issue.)
Well, the Rhino shifted just enough to let the straps go slack, and it managed to unhook itself from the bed, so a 20 mph swan dive off a 4 and a half foot diving board (formerly my tailgate). The swan dive ended up being an ass flop, as the back end of the Rhino hit the ground. Luckily, the wheel turned to the right, and the Rhino drove itself ever so gently into the barrier.
All the while, I thought I had snapped a driveshaft, but I knew something else was wrong. I looked in the mirror….and see shit scattered ALL over the freeway.
BRRRR! Hit the brakes, grab R, and go back to collect everything.
All the while, my buddies who saw me merging on the freeway witnessed all this in disbelief. By the time they got off the next offramp, and spun around to help me, I had the Rhino loaded back in the bed, and ready to rock and roll.
And that’s how I got a 2008 Superduty Tailgate.

| to answer some questions -
PETA was notified. The Rhino on the freeway was a lure. upon their arrival, they were shot. Twice. Then carted away on the Rhino to a an undisclosed location.
Mort - on the occasion that brute force doesn't work, we use 6' ramps at a 45* angle, put 'er in 4wd low, and pin the throttle. Excursions like this make me want to get a headache rack.
Dev - I hate agreeing with Tom, but you are right. That shit was funny!!! HAHAHAHA...a | |
