Hi all, I am new to this site so bear with me. I have a 1990 s10, 4cly, 2wd. I bought it used a few months ago, ran ok but got bad mileage, anyway, it just began that I had to hold gas petal all the way open for it to start. Did this for a few days, now it won't start and has a lot of gas in the thottle body and had a backfire though the thottle body. I have spark. Also, when I took the air cleaner of there was oil in it. Please Help.
Thank very much

The oil in the air cleaner might suggest you have bad rings. Id check your compression.

The other thing that might be happening which seems more likely is your running very rich. That is why you have to put it to the floor to get it to start. That would also cause oil in your air cleaner as the truck is so rich you have gas washing past the rings and they are letting oil through. This can also cause your rings to loose seat. Smell your oil on your dipstick and see if you smell gas in it.

I would do a leak down test also. Plus you should get it on the dyno to see what your fuel air ratio is. That will tell you a lot.
